Synapse is the product of a highly competitive Public Art commission for the Behavioral Science Building at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. Christopher Weed was commissioned to design a sculptural installation fitting the personality of the LEED Gold Certified building with a massive atrium (120’ long by 22’ wide and 78’ high). Synapse is composed of fourteen aluminum spheres in various scales that refer to the valuable research that occurs here. The science-inspired forms glow with an iridescent shine lit by the atrium’s abundance of natural sunlight. Christopher Weed’s dynamic sculpture design included the complicated installation of these multiple elements as high at 70 feet off the ground.
