I created a larger-than-life, Iconic Bass towering 26.9’ high, with a spectacular daytime and nighttime presence. This colorful and whimsical sculpture welcomes the viewer to the Classic Center Arena and all it has to offer, creating a sense of place at the new arena and downtown Athens, GA. The abstract Bass sculpture celebrates Athens’s rich music scene, its performing arts, and cultural diversity, speaking to its colorful past, present, and bright future in a thought-provoking fashion. This Iconic sculpture is symbolic in that it pays homage to Athens’s vast musical talent, from REM, B-52s, and the Indigo Girls to the iconic jazz greats such as Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, and Duke Ellington, who frequently traveled to Athens to play in the downtown “Hot Corner” in the early 1900s.
