Synapse is the product of a highly competitive Public Art commission for the Behavioral Science Building at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. Christopher Weed was commissioned to design a sculptural installation fitting the personality of the LEED Gold Certified building with a massive atrium (120’ long by 22’ wide and 78’ high). Synapse is composed of fourteen aluminum spheres in various scales that speak to the valuable research that occurs at this state-of-the-art facility. The science-inspired forms glow with an iridescent shine lit by the atrium’s abundance of natural sunlight. Weed’s dynamic sculpture design entailed the complicated installation of these multiple elements at 80 feet off the ground.
